Honeymoon Diary
Day 1 – Monday March 30th 2009- Flew out of Tullamarine at 1:00 AM (Melbourne Time)
- Arrived in Bangkok at 6:00 AM (Bangkok Time)
- Met tour guide and went on Temple Tour and saw Wat Pho Temple, Wat Arun, Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Budda
- At 11:00 AM the heat was too much so we headed back to Bangkok airport to wait for our flight.
- Had Lunch and Dinner at two restaurants at the Airport
- Flew out of Bangkok at 10:00 PM
- Arrive in Phuket just before Midnight
- Arrived at our hotel in Patong at 1:00 AM
- Slept into 10:00 AM before heading down for Buffet breakfast
- Met with the company who we had organized our tours through and found out all the details.
- Spent the rest of the day lazing around the pool and our room relaxing
- Had lunch at the Bar and Grill at the Resort and ordered room service for dinner
- Once again enjoyed the Buffet Breakfast
- Went for a walk up Beach Road and was asked twenty million times if we wanted T-Shirts, Suits, Rolex Watches etc
- At 12:30 PM we were picked up for our Elephant Trek, where we got to see a Baby Elephant Show and go for a trek on the back of an Elephant
- Spent rest of the day relaxing
- Had a late lunch at the Bar and Grill and ordered room service for dinner
- Forced ourselves to partaking in the Buffet Breakfast again
- Went in search of a friendly suit maker to purchase a suit from. We ended up buying one complete suit and evening dress for about $380 AUD
- Did a little bit of shopping and purchased authentic items including a Manchester United Baseball Cap and Gucci Sunglasses.
- Had a light lunch at the Bar and Grill
- More relaxing by the pool
- TC went to the Gym
- Went and had dinner in the main Restaurant for the Buffet Italian Dinner.
- Buffet Breakfast followed by lazing by the pool
- Went shopping for clothes
- Bar and Grill for Lunch
- Went to Fanta Sea where we once again went for an elephant ride and had our photos taken with a baby tiger, bay elephants and some weird looking creatures.
- Buffet Breakfast followed by lazing by the pool
- Went for a walk around Patong
- Went bowling and played pool
- Experienced Thai Macdonalds for Dinner
- Went for fitting for our Suit and Dress
- Went for a late night swim in the pool
- Was up early for the Buffet breakfast as we need to catch a bus to the Phuket Zoo
- Went to the Phuket Zoo and got photos with Monkeys, Tiger, Elephants and a Macaw.
- Had a late afternoon nap
- Went to visit the Suit people again for a final fitting
- Buffet Breakfast
- Went for a walk into Patong looking for a Market we had seen on the way back from Phuket Zoo.
- Bought a lot more clothes and other items
- Had Thai KFC for lunch
- Had dinner in the “Night District”
- Picked up our Suit and Dress
- Buffet Breakfast
- Rebecca suffering from food poisoning.
- We were unable to go on our tour of the Islands due to Rebecca’s food poisoning.
- Macdonalds for Lunch and Room Service for Dinner

- Spent day resting and preparing for flight to Shanghai tomorrow
- Macdonalds for Lunch
- Things seem to be heating up in Bangkok so glad we are leaving for China tomorrow
- Room Service for Dinner
- Rebecca still not well, but well enough to travel.
- We were picked up from our Hotel at around 4:00 am and then headed to Phuket Airport where we flew to Shanghai.
- Hungary Jacks for Breakfast
- From Phuket we flew to Shanghai and arrived there at about 4:00 PM their time.
- We made through Customs and Immigration with no problems only to find that there was no-one there to pick us up. After a number of phone calls to Australia and some translation from the Information desk we had the address of a hotel.
- We were ripped of by a nice English speaking gentleman when trying to get a Taxi. The driver of the Taxi driver was extremely nice and made sure we got to our destination safe and sound.
- We were both a little shaken up by this, but we had made it to our destination safe and sound.
- Looked at the room service menu and decided that there was nothing worth eating so went to bed early.
- Went for a walk to find food that we could eat. Located Macdonalds and KFC. Very difficult to get any other food as other than in Western food restaurants there is little to no English spoken.
- Enjoyed Macdonalds for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Shanghai very different to Phuket and we are constantly hassled by people to buy things and they are very forceful making walking up the street quite an unpleasant experience.
- Made enquiries as to how to get to the Shanghai Zoo for our day trip tomorrow.
- Had Macdonalds for Breakfast.
- Caught a Taxi to the Shanghai Zoo
- Successfully bought tickets and gained entrance to the Zoo and then proceeded to find the Panda Exhibit.
- We spent about three hours at the zoo before catching a Taxi back to the Hotel
- Had a small accident in the Taxi on the way back to the Hotel with a bus running into us
- Had Macdonalds for Lunch
- Located Internet Café
- Had KFC for Dinner
- Had Macdonalds for Breakfast.
- Relaxed in our room
- Had Macdonalds for Lunch
- Met our tour group at about 6:00 PM and went over all the details of our tour.
- Had our first experience of real Chinese food when we went out for dinner with the Tour Group. The total cost for the dinner, drinks included, was about $8 AUD per person.
- Macdonalds for breakfast
- Went to the Shanghai Museum
- Went to Zhou Zhang which is known as a water town and quite impressive
- Had lunch at Zhou Zhang and once again had authentic Chinese for around $6 AUD per person
- Had Macdonalds for Dinner
- Went to see the Acrobat Show
- Macdonalds for breakfast
- Went on a walking tour of Shanghai
- Macdoanlds for lunch
- Went and got Subway to take with us on the overnight train
- We left for the train station at 2:00 PM and boarded the train at 4:00 PM and began our 16 hour journey to Xian
- Went to sleep at about 8:00 pm
- Arrived in X’ian at 8:00 AM and then caught a bus the hotel
- After some time refreshing in our rooms we headed down to the wall that surrounds the city
- We hired bikes and rode around the wall
- Had lunch in a Muslim part of the town
- Went back to the hotel to rest
- Had Hot Pot for dinner
- Macdonalds for Breakfast
- Visited the Terracotta Soldiers
- Had lunch with a Chinese family
- Went to the X’ian Museum
- Dumpling Banquet for Dinner
- Macdonalds for Breakfast
- Went to X’ian Zoo
- Had lunch Macdonalds for a late lunch
- Went to a Supermarket and bought supplies for the train trip
- Boarded the train to X’ian at 8:00 PM
- Arrived in Beijing at about 8:00 AM
- We were taken by taxi to the hotel
- We spent some time freshening up before meeting up again with the group
- Caught the train to Tieneman Square
- Visited the Forbidden City
- Rebecca not feeling 100%
- Had lunch with another Chinese family and a tour of where Chinese people live
- Bought a Chairman Mao T-Shirt and other misc stuff
- Had Chinese for dinner as a Group
- Macdonalds for Breakfast
- Gathered supplies to take with us for the the trip to Great Wall
- Travelled to the great wall and then spent several hours exploring by ourselves
- Spent the last of our money buying more souvenirs
- Had Peking Duck for dinner
- Got Icecream from Macdonalds on the way back to Hotel
- Was up at 5:00 AM to catch our transfer to Beijing Airport to catch our flight back to Bangkok
- Arrived in Bangkok just after lunchtime and went straight to our hotel
- TC not feeling well
- Ordered room service for Lunch
- Spent afternoon relaxing in hotel room and in the pool
- Had dinner in the revolving restaurant
- Was up at 4:15 AM to catch our transfer to Bangkok Airport for our flight back to Melbourne.
- Was kept waiting on the bus as some of the passengers had slept in.
- Arrived back in Melbourne 7:50 PM, but did not clear customs and immigration until 9:20 PM due predominantly to stupid Indian Passengers who would not listen and do as they were told.
